Steve joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary in 1988, rising through the ranks from Police Constable to Inspector, before being elected Chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales – one of the largest staff associations in the UK – in May 2014.
This role means he is the key ambassador for rank and file Police Officers and he leads the organisation in defending Officers’ pay and working conditions, working closely with local Federations and the Government.
Steve’s operational service includes roads policing, as well as six years as an authorised firearms officer on armed response vehicles. While serving as an inspector in Bristol he received three commendations for courage and leadership. Of the UK Police Memorial Trust, he says:
“It is a great honour to be involved in the development of a new UK Police Memorial as a fitting tribute to the truly amazing men and women who have sacrificed their lives to protect the British public. The Police Federation is also a significant supporter of National Police Memorial Day which, along with Police Arboretum Memorial initiatives, really go some way in supporting the families of the fallen.”
