Murdered Officers Family Put Their Best Feet Forward for Uk Police Memorial

The family of murdered Met police officer DC Jim Morrison will be carrying out a sponsored walk up The Clisham, an 800m mountain on the Isle of Harris in Scotland, at the week-end (20th/21st October), to raise funds for the new UK Police Memorial.

Jim’s wife Victoria, his two brothers, Donald and Angus and his two sisters, Johan and Isobel, together with their respective children, aged between 11 and 21, will walk to the summit of the mountain over five hours.

Jim Morrison (aged 26) was murdered in London in December 1991 whilst giving chase to a bag thief whilst off duty. His killed has never been caught.

Victoria Morrison said: “We as a family lost a much-loved husband, son, brother and uncle on that fateful day almost 26 years ago.

“Jim spent most of his childhood holidays on a farm on the Isle of Harris, with Donald, Angus, Johan and Isobel, enjoying the wonderful outdoor life. It is also the place where he is buried.

“Harris is a beautiful and special island close to all our hearts, so it was an easy decision that this is the perfect place to complete our walk.”

To date, the Morrison family have raised almost £2,500 which will be donated to the new UK Police Memorial. The Memorial will be established at the National Arboretum in Staffordshire and will honour the courage and sacrifice of all those police officers and police staff killed in the line of duty.

Sir Hugh Orde, Chair of the UK Police Arboretum Memorial Trust, said: “We are so grateful to Victoria and her family for raising funds for the Memorial and for honouring Jim in this way.

“It is only right and proper that we pay tribute to those from our policing family who have lost their lives protecting us from harm and keeping us safe. The loss of a loved one who has been killed in violent circumstances through policing, like Jim, impacts on us all.

“How fitting that the Morrison family have decided to undertake this walk in a place that meant so much to Jim and I wish them every success with their venture.”
